Prison Reform
Children should not be allowed to go to an adult prison if they are younger than 16 and they should not be allowed to have a life sentence. Around the country there are children that are being charged with life sentences for crimes. In prison children are being sexually, physically, and mentally abused. These children should be sent to juvenile centers. Children that are 16 and older should be allowed to have an adult sentence only considering certain crimes like murder or rape. There should be alternatives to adult sentences through juvenile centers that will rehabilitate youth so they can reenter society. They deserve a second chance because there are many reasons that kids at a young age will commit crimes.
Human Trafficking
Regarding human trafficking the United States should take some of the funds from drug funds and put them into human trafficking prevention funds. 24.9 million people worldwide are being trafficked and there are 15,000 to 50,000 people being human trafficked. There are different laws and programs trying to stop human trafficking, but that still is not enough. We need to start taking funds from other programs and putting them into human trafficking funds so this issue can stop.
Stem Cell Research
Scientists should extract stem cells for research from the umbilical cord which are both proven to be harmless and successful. Stem cells from the dead embryos should not be harvested due to the moral issues of abortion. Avoiding moral issues and proven to be more cost-effective umbilical cord stem cells are the best option for health care in the current moment.
XL Pipeline Building Permit
The XL pipeline building permit should be allowed due to the benefits to our economy over pollution. Regarding Bidens Executive Order on the rejection of the construction permit of the XL pipeline, the executive order should be taken back due to the consequences of destroying our economy and jobs. Benefits like thousands of jobs, hundreds of thousands of crude oils a day, and that pipeline transport is the safest option for oil.
Russian-Ukraine War
Currently to help Ukraine, the US and the Allies have delivered different types of missiles, ammunition, personal carriers and fighting vehicles . Along with over 13 billion dollars is security assistants (US Government). The US is the number one aider to Ukraine (Fleck). U.S. military assistance for Ukraine to approximately $15.2 billion since the beginning of the Biden Administration (Blinken). In order to also help the US and other countries have places sanctions on Russia. With these facts, the US should continue to help and support Ukraine, but we should be sending less money, and use the money to help those who don’t have a job due to Covid-19 find a job. People have been affected by Covid-19 and have been struggling to get a job or maintain a job. We should spend money to help people be able to care for their families rather be trying to trend the line of not poking Russia’s bear too much. We should still continue to help Ukraine, defend the democracy, and gain an ally closer to Russia.
Equal Pay
The Paycheck Fairness Act is about gender equality through paychecks. It would help decrease student loan dept because women in the US hold about two-thirds of the $1.54 trillion in student loan dept. It would help single mothers be able to support their child and help women get a better retirement. Although it would be beneficial in many areas in a woman's life it would most likely increase the number of lawsuits that would be filed in the workplace. It would also get rid of the job flexibility/hours and cause a general decrease in pay across all jobs.
Qualified Immunity
Qualified immunity is an issue that has affected the United States for years now. Officers are almost automatically granted qualified immunity without judges, or anyone for that matter, looking into the cases presented to them. This causes some officers to use this as a loophole to abuse the power that has been given to them, and in turn, makes several people want to completely abolish qualified immunity so abuse of power can no longer happen. Completely abolishing qualified immunity would only take away a protective barrier set in place for officers who truly need it and are properly using it. By implementing a new court system for these select cases, the United States would allow officers to keep their immunity while punishing those who abuse their immunity.
Climate Change Agreement
Climate change is something that affects not only the United States, but every other country in the world. By doing nothing, the United States is not only hurting themselves, but the other countries around the world. While it would take a lot of work and time to consult other countries, there are things that can be done on U.S. soil until those negotiations can take place. Regarding the Climate Change Agreements, the United States should control pollution from power plants, promote green energy, and use mitigation and adaptation tactics. While these methods may take some time and effort, they will start to better the issue that is climate change, and start to save the planet.
